Noor Inayat Khan, the daughter of a prominent Indian Muslim and his American wife, could have stayed in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and that would be the end of it. She probably would've survived the war eventually dying of old age and her story would still be remembered as a quaint story of how women fliers contributed to the war effort. But she joined the British Special Operations Executive, went into France and was promptly betrayed by the very people she was trying to help liberate. The documentary Enemy of the Reich chronicles her life and imprisonment by the Nazis, and is a story worth remembering and memorializing.
